Frequently Asked Questions - Bathroom Electrics

Can a Bathroom Fitter do my electrical work?

No, unless they have applied to Building Control to carry the work out and paid their fees.  This costs in excess of £200 currently, and involves an appointed electrician to inspect and test on at least 2 occasions throughout the installation.  It is easier to use a registered electrician.

Do I need RCD Protection for Bathroom Work?

Yes!  30ma RCD Protection must be provided and be tested using specialist equipment.  Me Time in Tonbridge carry out all necessary tests as part of the work.

Can I charge my Electric Toothbrush from my Shaver Socket?

No, not normally.  Shaver Sockets often have 'shavers only' on the front because the transformers are designed for short uses only.   Excessive heat builds over the course of the day whilst toothbrush charging through an unsuitable socket, so always check that you are having a socket installed with a toothbrush symbol on the unit.  We install these and would be happy to assist.

Can my Extractor Fan be fitted in the shower enclosure?

In some cases yes, provided all the requirements are met for the installation and the manufacturer states that it is suitable for the zone.  This work is notifiable under Building Regulations.  Me Time in Tonbridge are NAPIT registered and able to carry out a compliant and fully certified installation.
